Ski jumper Althaus leads and reaches for gold

Ski jumper Katharina Althaus (Oberstdorf) has her sights set on the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing and thus the first German precious metal. The 25-year-old silver medalist from Pyeongchang 2018 leads after the first round on the normal hill with a jump of 105.5 m and 121.1 points ahead of Slovenian Ursa Bogataj.

Bogataj jumped further with 108.0 m, but had better conditions and only got 118.0 points. Converted, Althaus' lead is around one and a half meters. Nika Kriznar (113.9 points) and World Champion Ema Klinec (112.1 points) also placed third and fourth place for Slovenia.

The second best German is Pauline Hessler (Lauscha) with 89.5 m (80.9 points) in 21st place. Juliane Seyfarth (Ruhla) is in 23rd place with 86.0 m (78.7 points). Selina Freitag (Aue) came in 28th with 80.0 m (69.8 points).

The Norwegian Pyeongchang Olympic champion Maren Lundby is completely suspended this winter, Austria's World Cup leader Marita Kramer had tested positive for Corona shortly before the games and is therefore missing.
